Stunning, rare, antique, interior door lockset made by "J.B. Shroder" of Cincinnati, Ohio sometime during the first half of the previous century. The set consists of 2 bronze knobs, 2 bronze escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 1 working key, 1 brass-plated steel strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 1 securing clip. All bronze parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, not flimsy stamped/pressed bronze or plated steel.
One knob is permanently affixed to the spindle, while the other knob is secured to the spindle using the half-circle clip included with the set.
The lock is reversible and could accommodate either a left or right swing door.
The top and bottom of the escutcheons are adorned with a wonderful, Gothic style pattern, and the knobs feature the seal of the, "Knights of Pythias," encircled with laurel leaves.
We acquired the set about 3 years ago. The parts were found dirty, unevenly tarnished, and with paint streaks along the edges of the plates. We cleaned all parts to a uniform finish. Once the set was clean and ready to photograph, we realized that we didn\'t have the securing clip for the knob. We put the set to the side until we could find the clip, and since we never found the clip, we completely forgot about the set. We just recently re-discovered the set, and happened to have a washer thick enough to fit the slot in the base of the knob. We cut the washer, and now, the set is ready to install. While the set sat around for 3 years, it developed a subtle patina and some verdigris around the details.
All parts are in excellent condition with no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, or gouges.
We opened, inspected, and sprayed machine oil on and around all internal parts of the lock to facilitate its movement. We made a key specifically for this lock, and could make more for a charge of $8/key--email us after the sale if you are 2 1/4" diameterx 2 1/2\" DEscutcheons: 2 3/8"W x 93/4\"H
