Approx 130 Civil War General Orders Hand Bound In Orig. Red Tape 1862-1863 For Sale
Army Of The Cumberland " Gen Rosecrans Headquarters" Approx 130
General Orders. Hand bound at the time in orig. "Red Tape"
This is a remarkable hand bound collection of approximately 130 original General Orders from the Army of the Cumberland There are dockets on several ,For example::"Hdqr's 14th Army Corps, Dec. 6, 1862 Gen Rosecrans." -Orders continue into Aug. and Sept 1863 - The orders are printed ongood paper with the irregular inking found in thecamp on small portable presses. Names mentioned are very many, Brig Genl H.P.Van Cleve, Brig Genl George Crook,,Col Alvin C. Gillem, Adjutant Genl H Thrall are a few of them. These orders would have been in and around Nashville and then Murfreesboro, TN and South towards Chickamauga during some of the most decisive battles of the Civil War (The Battle of Stones River, The Tullahoma Campaign, and Chickamauga) The orders are in the original condition and were gathered together most certainly by an aide to General Rosecrans and saved bound with the contemporary red ribbon that gave us the modern term "Red Tape." These documents contain exceedingly graphic accounts of camp life and the results of soldiers' desertions, thievery, murder, and other offences. For example, one soldier was found asleep on duty, and as his punishment was, "To be shot to death." The plainness of terminology and starkness of language, gives one a feeling of closeness to the events few modern history books can approach!! -- Well over 300 pages ofon the spot descriptions of what it was like!
