This is a great group of 27 letters and documents related to
Alexander Sympson of Carthage, Illinois.
The group includes several letters written from him and then many other
invoices and deeds related to land in Illinois and Missouri. They are all from the 1840s and early
1850s. Sympson was a close friend of
Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln even stayed at his home at one point. Sympson was also
one of the leaders of the mobs that set out to get Joseph Smith while he was in
Carthage. He is mentioned in several
places as being a part of those mob, he
is specifically listed as a member of the mob that massacred Joseph Smith, he
was listed by the Sheriff. They are all
in good condition.
