ART DECO 2-Sided Sterling+Enamel Cufflinks~EX COND~STAR+Bow PATTERNS~Vintage~FAB
Exquisite andunusually Luminous Enamel! Dramatic Patterns of Stars and Bows!Excellent Condition! These authentic Art Deco period sterling and enamel cufflinks aresimply Sensational. The poor photos do not begin to do them justice.
The guilloche´ enamel in the center is in an absolutely radiant shade of rich, creamy white and the patterns are so textural, they appear to have actual dimension, as if they were carved and appliqued. Superimposed in relief on the pattern of concentric ringsis a 6-lobed motif, that may be a sand dollar, but with winter on my mind, makes me think ofa snowflake. The concentric circlesunder the lobes are visible, adding to the impression of depth. Around this, creating a 6-point Star, is a series of garlands or swags, with a bow at each tip. These textural patterns, like an elaborately upholstered pillow in shining satin, have so much movement, they fairlyexplode as they radiate from the center. And thesilver-sectioned borders in the black enamel give the linksa finished look, setting off the patterned white enamel and framing themlike paintings. Not just eye catching, they are absolutely mesmerizing. They will be So Striking onyour Cuffs!
Measuring about 9/16"diameter, the cufflinksare signed "Sterling" on the backs. (Penultimate photo.)
They are in Excellent vintage condition.Even viewing them under magnification at an angle to the light, I see no scratches in the enamel. There are theusualminor manufacturing imperfections, including tiny bubbles, pitting and/or depressions andminuscule specks or dark spots. The ring on the back of one face is slightly bent, mentioned only for completeness. (It is on the upper left face in the photo of the back.) On the sterling, there is surface dirt, scratches and the dark, eventarnish that can come only with time, giving them a lovely vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.
