Neiger Bros Bracelet Asian Phoenix Peking Glass Enamel 1920s Bangle
What a rare delight! This Czechoslovakian Art Deco bracelet in enameled brass and satin Peking glass is by none other than the brothers Max and Norbert Neiger of Gablonz. In research, I've found that the Neigers were known for producing elaborate costume jewelry in Asian and Egyptian themes. The brothers died in the Holocaust, so their time producing jewelry was tragically brought to a halt, thus making their beautiful creations extremely rare. Their pieces were not signed, however are readily identified by the signature phoenix or dragon motif and the use of glowing satin type Peking glass components. This bracelet, comprised of ivory colored celluloid and decorated with three double sided stations, each bearing a large faceted green satin Peking Glass arched rectangular cabochons in a saw-tooth setting, framed on either side by round cabs of matching glass. The stations wrap around the bangle and bear the image of the grimacing phoenix or dragon on each side of each station. Dark enameling in the background gives each station an antiqued appearance.
Measurements: The bracelet is 2 1/2" in diameter. The large stones are approximately 1" long and over 1/2" wide. Weight: 44.9 gm
Condition: In very good antique wearable condition. All of the stones are present. One of the tiny side stones is cracked/chipped. Please see the photo. The balance of the stones are free of nicks, chips or cracks. There is some darkening of the original glue. This could probably be carefully removed, but I will leave it to you to decide. The bracelet itself is smooth and without loss. The stations are firmly affixed in their positions on the bangle.
Hallmarks/Markings: None found
Circa: 1920s Art Deco Era from Czechoslovakia
