François Theodore Legras
He is one of the four glass master craftsmen founders of Art Nouveau
along with Gallé , Daum and Lalique
And the early production of Legras certainly is on that same level, and commands high prices in prestigious sales
But indeed the Legras glass company, after its founder left, had a tendency to produce a number of fairly similar pieces...but with a lower level of artistic quality.
This vase is typical of the scenery vases that Legras was known to make. It has been acid etched, giving it this frosted look. The scenery is enameled and shows some impressionist influence. This is clearly an early piece by Legras , most probably made in the late 19th century
