A Stunning Piece !!!!
Raku pottery was developed in Japan in the early 1500\'s as the ceremonial tea ware of the Buddhist Masters. Raku is a low temperature firing process. Bisque pottery is glazed then placed in a small preheated kiln. When the glaze has matred the pot is removed with tongs and placer in container of combustible material to ignite and hen smothered to achieve a reduction atmosphere. This process causes unpredictable glaze effects.
Although raku pottery is fired at 1700 degrees the clay body is still porous and is unsuitable to liquids. It is a decorative piece only.
