Arts & Crafts Art Nouveau Polished Pewter Candlesticks Knox Liberty & Co Design:
Height :13 cms
Base Diameter : 12 cms
A pair of Arts & Crafts /Art Nouveau, pewter candlesticks, designed by Archibald Knox for Liberty & Co Tudric.
Each is decorated with four, heart-shaped leaves, (two elongated), with organic lines rising up the gently swollen stem of the stick. The sconce is shaped, with a pinched, upturned edge.
Unmarked, but a well-documented design, (pattern no. 023).
Made circa 1902-1905.
Professionally polished, without loss of definition, and offered in good condition, apart from slightly wavy outer rims to the bases, and some raised ‘bubbles’ of solder on the edges of the base rims, (from the original construction, not repair!) Some areas of light pitting, and wear, including some small cracks to the upper surface of the outer base rims. These do not go right through to the underside. Please see detailed photos.
A wonderful, and fully functionaladdition to any collection of Arts & Crafts / Art Nouveau metalware retailed by Liberty & Co at the turn of the last century, such as Cymric Silver, Kayserzinn, Osiris, WMF, Orivit, Urania, Newlyn or work by the Guilds.
Will be carefully and lovingly packed!
