This authentic mask is from the Ambler, AK area. The face is made from caribou hide. It is scraped on the outside and the sheared part is on the inside. The eyes are made from fur taken near the hooves (feet), the trim is caribou hide and the ruff is fox fur. When this was made the hide was set on a wooden frame, when wet, and dried in the shape. The dancer would hold the mask over their face by placing a \"stick\" in their mouth that was attached to the mask. The is a one of a kind and a great addition to an art collection!
