Authentic Hummel "the Surprise" #431 Girl Holding Flowers - Box + Display Tmk-6:
The charm and innocence of rosy-cheeked children, captured in sister M.I. Hummel's heartwarming artwork, have inspired one of the world's most beloved collectibles of all time. Since 1935, there have been many changes to the trademarks of authentic Hummel's starting with TMK-1 (1934 - 1950); TMK-2 (1940 - 1959); TMK-3 (1958-1972); TMK-4 (1964-1972); TMK-5 (1972-1979); TMK-6 (1979-1991); TMK-7 (1991 - 1999); TMK-8 (2000 - 2008); and TMK-9 (2009 - present). I have attempted to identify the marks on each piece but I encourage to look at all the photos to make sure you are aware of what you are buying. I have included pictures of the bottom to show the mold numbers, the trademark, and the copyright year and artist signature (if applicable).
This Hummel #431 "The Surprise" was introduced in 1988 and was the 12th special edition for members of the Goebel Collectors' Club. This piece measures 5.5" H, is a TMK-6 and the first to bear the little bumblebee that was to appear on all special editions. The #431 and the copyright date of 1981 are incised, there is a blue decal with the inscription: "exclusive special edition no. 12 for members of the Goebel collectors' club," and it is artist signed. The display set and the original box are also included. See photos of display set - it needs some repair of the back wall. Retails for $180-$210. Smoke free home.
