Awesome Mid To Late 17th Century Dutch Cavalry Horseman's Back Sword (palash):
From around mid to late 1600s this massive and rare example of the Dutch horseman's sword, wearing a powerful straight single edged blade of double fullered configuration, exhibiting nice rich patina throughout and areas of fine pitting, both sides bearing well preserved struck maker's marks and name, possibly those of Venetian maker. Large sturdy steel hilt mounts having pierced clam shell guards and broad D-guard branches decorated with simple engraved floral motives, finely wire wrapped grip adorned with a massive beast head pommel typical of Dutch examples. All solid and completely intact, ready for most efficient battle action. overall 43" blade 37 1/4".
