Axel Salto Oxblood Studio Vase For Royal Copenhagen:
Axel Salto is widely regarded as the most important European 20th century potter, with a sale record of $550 000 from last year.
This is a slightly elongated bottle vase in oxblood glaze with an additional thick layer of mottled copper imitation glaze (as seen on some monochrome Chinese pieces from the Qianlong period). There is a small turquoise tinge between these layers - one of many interesting features of this vase. The neck is lovely from cherry red to porcelain white on the rim and a nice white patch on the inside. Royal Copenhagen studio piece, first factory make, with three blue waves to bottom. Signed Salto in capitals (though admittedly not captured very well by camera). The bottom has been a little blurred from the firing, which is normal on these pieces. The condition is excellent - with a microscopic defect from production as seen on last picture. This is a top notch piece by one of the most sought after names in 20th century design history.Provenance: Private collection. Height: 24 cm (9.5").Free insured shipping worldwide. If you have any questions, please do ask. I'm taking a big gamble selling a piece of this magnitude on .
