B.c.a.d. Art- 16th - 17th Century Conquistador Steel Helmet:
Ca. 16th -17th century. An steel pikeman’s cabasset, worn by the Spanish infantry in the pike and shot formations, popular in the 16th century, many helmets of this type were taken to the New World. Two makers marks stamped on the front brim. A series of small holes slightly above the brim, probably to secure the original lining. Exterior surface cleaned, interior has a rusted surface patina. Overall exc. cond. 7-3/4”H. Private Connecticut collection, acquired before 1968 .
