Beautful, Gustav Becker, 2 Weight, Vienna Regulator Wall Clock For Sale
Up for sale is a Gustav Becker, 2 weight, Vienna Regulator wall clock. It has an 8-day, time and strike movement andran well for several months in my son's office, recently. It is a very nice clock, but as with all antique clocks, it comes with some issues which I will address first.
The crest is not original to the cabinet, but it is period andvintage. The finials are (3) also not original to the cabinet. Those are the major issues I have observed, but please remember, it is an antique that has had many years of service.
The case is walnut and the finish appears to be mostly original. The cabinet is large, approximately 43 inches talland over 17 inches wide (oversize?). The 8-day, 2 weight movement was manufactured by Gustav Becker. The serial number on the movement is #766121 which places the manufacturing date between 1885-1890. The cabinet and the movement appear to be original to the to each other and I see no extra screw holes in the backboard. There are two stampings on the back of the movement, one for a metal awarded to Becker in France and the other has the Becker Name. I tried to show these in one of the photos. It has a 7 ” white porcelain dial in very good condition and it strikes on a bar every half hour. As a rule, I do not polish my clocks as I prefer the patina from years of use to the shine of new clocks, therefore, this clock may not shine like some would like, but it will polish up very nice if that is desired, but I leave that to the new owner. The weights have a few small dents consistent with the age and use of the clock.
I have described everything to the best of my knowledge. As a collector, my opinion as to the current condition of a clock is my very best effort to disclose any details regarding the clock being altered or not in its original condition.I do not consider myself an expert on clocks, but you can offer with the confidence as you are being provided with good, knowledgeable information. If anything, I tend to providetoo much detail. I am selling the clock as is, no guarantees, for parts or restoration. Please examine each photo closelyas they also represent my description. If you have any concerns, questions, or doubts that need clarification, PLEASE ask prior to offerding and I will try to answer them as quickly as possible. A winding crank (not original) will be included.
SHIPPING: Antique clocks are not equipped for many of the rigors of modern shipping. The best option I have found is a professional packer who understands just how delicate an antique clock is. This method is sadly, not perfect, but I believe it is the best chance for the clock to reach the buyer absent shipping damage.I have found a packer that I intend to use exclusively. Please understand, using a pro is more expensive, involves additional time, requires extra packing material, all of which translates into increased shipping costs, but it maysave the clock from damage and isn't that what we are all striving for?Clocks are often double boxed and/or shipped in heavier gauge cardboard, if the packer deems it necessary. I leave it solely to his descretion and I willingly pay any additional cost. Insuranceis that covers the price of the clock is also includedin my flatrate and my proheunderwrites it, so he has an addedincentive to getit right. This gives the clock the best chance of arriving in as sold condition. If the entire cost is ever under my rate by more than $5, (it only hapened once) I will gladly refund the difference to the buyer. I do not make any money off shipping and handling!!!
My goals are undamaged clocks and satisfied buyers, in that order. Therefore, if you are not pleased with your purchase, you may return it pursuant to the following criteria:
I must be notified of your intention to return an item before it is shipped back. The item must be shipped (in transit) within 14 days of buyers receipt. The item must be packed in a manner equivalent to which it was shipped by me, i.e., well packed against damage. The item should be insured for the amount of the purchase price, but I will leave that up to the shipping party. The buyer pays shipping and any damages from the return. When these requirements are met, I will return the purchase price after receiving the item and ensuring it has been returned in the same condition as when I shipped it.
I plan to place a few clocks on sale each month. Keep checking back if you might be interested in more nice clocks.
S&H for this clock is fixed at $125. Please remember this clock is a very large, heavy, and oversize. $125 will not cover the entire cost andI invite you to check that out yourself.
The clock will be shipped within 3 days of payment clearance via a manner of my choosing, likely UPS or FedEx.
CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS WILL PAY STATE SALES TAX.
I accept Paypal only. Please, buyers within the continental US only.Payment is due within 3 days of sale’s end.
Thanks for looking and good luck.
