Beautiful Antique Indian Silver Tea Caddy C1890 :
Here’s a truly beautiful piece. An antique Indian silver tea caddy, decorated with the gorgeous Kasmiri shawl pattern – the pattern that inspired England’s Paisley pattern. The box is also a lovely shape, rectangular within concave corners, giving a very strong, tactile feel. This pattern is ideal for silver because it prevents fingerprints showing. Please see my other antique Indian items that I’m also saleing, including two by Oomersi Mawji. Maker: Unknown. Date, Assay Office or Country: Kasmir, India, c1890. Monogram/Crest: Original owner’s signature to the base. Dimensions & Weight: Stands 6.2cm high, with the rectangular cross-sectional area measuring 8.3cm x 4.8cm. It weighs 148gms. Silver Fineness: Probably .900 or better. Condition: Very Fine. The hinge works beautifully and the lid closes to a perfect fit. As a guide, I use ‘Fine’ to categorize an item whose wear is commensurate with age and perhaps has minor dings; ‘Very Fine’ when condition is better than might be expected for its age. Condition is subjective, so please see my pictures and use your own judgement!
