This is a beautiful

ANTIQUE

MANDOLIN

In my estimation it dates from around the mid 19th Century, circa 1870-1880, but please make up your own mind about this.

The mandolin measures approx 23 inches (558mm) long and is made from polished rosewood, with boxwood stringing between the ribs.

It has a pine soundboard, and is beautifuly decorated with ornate mother of pearl inlay.

It is in sound condition, though some of the inlays are missing from around the edge (see photos) and there is an old split in the timber of the reinforcing piece around the base.(see photos).

This is sound, with no movement or lifting, and I suspect it is just a seasoning crack which has opened up as the timber has settled over the years (see photos).

All the machine heads turn as they shouldone has a replacement knob.

Inside the instrument still has the original makers' label which reads

Thestrings appear to be original too, and would benefit from being replaced.

The case is in fair, originalcondition, missing a catch and worn on the hinge.
