Beautiful Antique English Poured Wax Doll Amelia - A Long Haired Pierotti Beauty:
Could Amelia possibly be any prettier?! I don't think so. You decide!
This dainty 16.5 inch Pierotti antique English poured wax doll is such a picture-book little girl with her long, beautiful original inserted silky blonde mohair, her lovely little mouth and those cobalt blue glass eyes which really seem to see! The Pierotti family's gift for doll-making was such a wonderful legacy to doll collectors - what pleasure they have brought to so many people young and old.
Our little Miss needs your help to dress her. But it is no hardship to see her sitting there in her all-original underwear - a gorgeous lace trimmed Victorian onesie (all in one underwear), with matching petticoat with bustle effect back and wool half slip. The perfect Victorian little girl.
Her clean original cloth body bears a good stamp F. Aldis, for Frederic Aldis, the toy store in Belgrave Mansions in upmarket Belgravia in London between 1876 and 1900. I have had in my possession several wax dolls sold through Aldis, and they have all had particularly pretty faces, all with the cherubic pouting mouth, and high quality blown glass eyes.
Her head and shoulderplate have no breaks or repairs, and her poured wax limbs are in relatively good order. Things to note are one small triangular piece at the top of her left arm which was restored at some point in time and what appears to have been a clean break to the ankle. This has been reattached and no wax is missing at all. It just looks like a tidy and inconspicuous line above her rather neat little foot - I actually didn't even notice it for a very long time!
All in all, in spite of her little mishaps, she is a very charming little doll which tugs somewhat at the heartstrings. Ah, little Amelia...where in the world are you off to next, I wonder?
Thank you for viewing her.
