Bing Model Steam Engine. Gbn On Firebox Door. Presumed Genuine:
To the best of my knowledge this is a genuine Bing toy. Any further details to aid in identification will be gladly provided. The model is complete except for the spirit burner and the floor plate of the firebox. A tiny coiled spring drive belt to the governor is missing.Research on the internet indicates that it is probably a type 1637. See photo 12.The valve gear, connecting rod, steam valves, and feed pump operate smoothly..The water feed pump, boiler water level sight glass, governor, whistle, steam pressure gauge, safety relief valve are all intact. At an earlier point in its life it has suffered damage apparently by being dropped upside down onto a floor.
It suffered a broken crankshaft, a broken main bearing cap and dents to the steam pipe to the cylinder, the boiler top rim and the chimney. The broken crankshaft has been rebuilt, and a new bearing cap fashioned from mild steel to match the intact one.
The engine appears to be fully operational if a suitable spirit burner could be found. No attempt has been made to restore it other than repairing the crankshaft.Photo 12 from Google shows what has been identified as an example of model no. 1637
