An elegant Society of Arts Pattern
brass Microscope with accessories, engraved on the base "Pillischer, London, No. 1211",
The microscope stands about 12" tall in its closed position. Coarse focus is by rack and pinion on a large - 1 1/8" square pillar. The size of the pillar gives the microscope better stability. The fine focus it controlled by a knob on the top of the pillar. The scope has a draw tube and a movable slide holder
on the top of the large stage. There is a 3-aperture disc diaphragm with tube
and a good plano-concave mirror (only a couple of small blurry spots on the concave side.)
It comes with two
eyepieces (both with eye cups), and two objectives -- a 1inch and a ¼ inch lens. The brass canisters are
engraved, "M. Pillischer, London" on the caps, and 1 and 1/4 are also marked on the bottom of the canisters.
Other accessories including a good Bullseye condenser lens on stand, a large live box, a polarizer condenser with tuning wheel but no prism, and a pocket microscope.
The microscope is in very good
mechanical and optical condition. The rack and pinion are moving smoothly, and it delivers beautiful clear images. The scope is showing light typical wears and handling marks due to age and use, but over all it's in great condition for its age.
The compact Society-style dove tail oak case is beautifully made with paneled door, a small drawer, brass hinges, brass handle. The case is also in very good condition and it has a working lock and key. There are some old slides in the drawer but conditions are poor.
Case measures approx. 9 1/2" x 7
3/4" x 7".
Please see photos for details.
