Brass Baldwin Builders Plate, Great Northern P-2 Class Steam Locomotive 4-8-2:
Another plate from my collection up for sale. This one is a 9 1/4 inch brass Baldwin plate from Great Northern #2520. Construction number is #57340 with a build date of November 1923. The 2520 was one of the P-2 class 4-8-2 steam locomotives purchased for mainline passenger service. There were 28 locomotives in the P-2 class with road numbers 2500-2527. The class was later bumped to secondary passenger and fast freight service by the arrival of theS-1 class of 4-8-4's in the late 1920's. My notes show the 2520 was retired in December 1957 and scrapped in 1962. Plate is in overall good condition. Has been repainted at some point. Numerous hammer and chisel marks. Lettering has been ground down almost even with the background in places. Plate has 2 cracks. First crack extends from the lower bolt hole to the rim and measures 1 1/2 inches in length. Second crack is at the 10 o'clock position, is 4 inches in length and extends towards the center of the plate. Plate displays well and is Great Northern passenger steam so what else can I say.
