Bridal Tiara Crown Georgian Seed Pearl Style Antique Mop, Seashellswax Flowers:
THE ARTISTIC JOURNEYI have fallen in love with georgian seed pearl jewelry and old seed pearl work. It has been a journey discovering the process by which the seed pearl pieces were created. The antique seed pearl jewelry was most popular in the late 1700's and early to mid 1800's. Mary Todd Lincoln wore a parure of seed pearl jewelry from Tiffany's to Mr. Lincoln's inaugeration. Stunning pieces can still be found but they are extremely expensive. The pearls used in seed pearl jewelry are generally between 1 and 2 millimeters which is extremely small and horsehair is necessary for attachment because the holes in the pearls are so tiny. The pearls would then be sown on carved pieces of mother of pearl with amazing detail. Bracelets, pendants, earrings, brooches, mourning brooches, hair clips and stylized pins and large necklaces were made of seed pearls. Most of the pieces are depictions of nature i.e. leaves, flowers and stems.Being a shell artist in So. California and loving my craft, I decided to conquer the seed pearl jewelry technique to the best of my ability so I could combine it with my shellwork. I started creating shell pieces 8 or 9 years ago and have striven to create shell work that is likened to the victorian shellwork using vintage shells whenever possible. There is a constant evolution in my art. Another passion I have is to collect vintage bridal tiaras made of wax flowers. So.... I chose the wax flowers as part of the embellishments for the crown. I am very pleased with the outcome and thought I would offer one of my crowns on sale. Perhaps you might enjoy it as much as I have. I am a published artist in Somerset Home 2011 and 2012 where my shell work appears as well as in Belle Armoire Summer 2012. My shellwork has been featured on the Martha Stewart Show.DESCRIPTION OF THE CROWNA crown for your collection....created from 1 to 2 mm real seed pearls, antique carved mother of pearl, horsehair thread for the formation of flowers and other seed pearl attachment on leaves and scalloped edges, beautiful seashells including the rare spirula, vintage rice shells, scallop shells, jingle shells. pearl umbonium shells, white abalone and wire. The front of the crown displays 2 large old carved mother of pearl pieces, one round and the other oval with seed pearl/horsehair attached to it. A form was not used so the entire crown was created with wire. Some of the seed pearl flowers are attached to mother of pearl flowers. Jingle shells form the two large roses at the bottom of the crown. Then you will note, there are vintage wax flowers from the 1920's-30's attached all along the border. The inside of the crown is completely covered with the same embellishments except the two mother of pearl leaves are covered in vintage rice shells. The crown measures 6 inches tall 6 inch diameter and 7-8 inch deep. Being made with wire the crown can be made to tighten. The crown is difficult to describe and my photos do not do it justice but i tried. i will continue to try to get good photos and will post later.So....in summary.... this crown has antique, vintage, old and new elements. The overall look is vintage or antique. Please email with any questions. Thanks for looking.
