British Geo. V Wwi Model 1897 Infantry Sword W/ @ Scabbards, Frog, Plain Blade:
This is a British Model 1897 Infantry Officer's Sword, George V cipher, with an absolutely plain, unmarked blade and two scabbards- the metal dress scabbard, and a brown pigskin covered Sam Browne scabbard, as well as a very nice frog, and the remnants of the sword knot. BOTH OF THE SCABBARDS HAVE PROBLEMS: the metal scabbard is missing its throat, and the Sam Browne scabbard is missing the bottom 4 inches. The sword is pretty nice- the hilt is very nice, although it might be a little bit smaller than usual. The blade is interesting as it has no engraving or etching, and not even aa proof plug. It is the common "dumbbell" pattern, but it is also smaller and lighter than usual. I wonder if it could have been intended for a cadet?
Condition-wise, the point is rusted for the first 4 inches. The rest of the blade is nice. The hilt is excellent, and the grip is very nice. The frog shows some deterioration, but is quite nice overall. The sword knot is missing its end.
The sword is 36 inches long overall. The blade is 30 inches long.
Payment is expected within three days of close of sale. The ONLY exceptions must be by PRIOR arrangement.
