British Turkish Persian Islamic Napolionic Scimitar Sword Mameluke Runkel For Sale

Greetings. You are offerding on a very nice antique scimitar whose origin I'm unsure of.

What I believe is that the blade of the sword was imported to London in the early 1800's by J.J. Runkel , who was born in Germany, but did business in England. I do not think it was imported with the etching, but I cannot be sure.

The blade was fitted with the Scimitar, Mameluke, Samishir, Turkish, Islamic type hilt and scabbard fittings after the Islamic etchings were applied.

What leads me to believe that the sword couldbe British is the Runkel marking and the faint coat of arms/cipher of King George the III that is on the scabbard. I also did some research and found the British cavalry adopted this style of sword at about 1831. Another thought is that it could be an export piece made for a Muslim officer allied with or subjugated by the British.

The sword itself is a very nice quality piece with beautiful rosewood grips, brass hilt, and all brass scabbard that has a lot of detail. The curved blade is beautifully and deeply etched. There is some pitting at the tip. The brass looks to have been cleaned sometime in its past. Some damage to the scabbard. Unknown marking under the Langett.

Sword is 3 1/2 lbs with a 31 inch blade.
