British Ww2 S-african Made 8th Army Helmet Desert Rat Complete & Original For SaleA WW2 British 8th Army Desert Rat helmet. These patterns were produced in South Africa for use by British & commonwealth troops fighting in the North African theatre. The condition is excellent. It retains all of its original factory sand coloured (rough texture) paint. As usual, there is no stamping on the shell. The under-side brims were hardly ever stamped (i have only ever seen one with a stamp). It has the correct three holes at the rear for the (very rare) sun-protecting neck-flap. The correct brim seam is at the side (& not the rear). The unique liners have a fabric/felt oval cushion at the crown & were stamped with "Jager-Rand" with a WD arrow inside a large "U" & this one is dated 1942. The liner is in very good condition though some of the rexine material is a little 'crisp' & has torn a little on two of the segments, please see pic 10. Liner is sized 6 3/4. The chinstrap is in fine condition with all springs good. For more information on these special helmets, please see "Khaki Drill & Jungle Green" by Brayley & Ingram (Crowood books).
