Available in this sale is an original film-used uniform worn by future Hollywood star Michael Fassbender in the epic HBO mini-series Band of Brothers. Fassbender played \'Christenson\', a machine gunner in the 101st Airborne and he appeared prominently in several episodes. This uniform set includes an M43 jacket and paratrooper pants, complete with leg ties. The M-43 field jacket has corporal stripes on each sleeve, 101st Airborne patch and tab on the upper left sleeve and has an American Flag hand sewn onto the right sleeve, along with corporal stripes. The Flag was only worn in the Operation Market Garden episode. If you freeze frame parts of that episode you will see lots of examples of this Flag, and examples of it being sewn on exactly like this one. Some others also had the Flag just loosely attached with pins, and some had the brassard that wrapped completely around the arm. It was up to the individual soldier, and which he had access to. On this jacket, the Flag is also sewn slightly off center, and partially covering his corporal rank and that also exactly matches other soldiers you can see in frames of that episode. The seventh and eighth photos above are two OTHER SOLDIERS, not \'Christenson\' but it shows them with their Flags sewn on exactly the same. One has his slightly covering his rank, and both have the Flag sewn-on sort of off-centered. It appears they centered the stars of the American Flag on the sleeve, lining up with the shoulder flap above. Jacket has \'Father Maloney\' inked inside the jacket and marked out and also has \'Christenson\' inked inside next to it (and not marked out). This means the jacket was originally fitted by the Band of Brothers prop department for \'Father Maloney\' but then it was used by Christenson/Fassbender when they needed it for the Market Garden episode. Proof of this:-- Father Maloney was an officer, not a corporal, and this jacket has corporal stripes sewn on.
-- Christenson/Fassbender was a private at the start of Band of Brothers and got promoted to corporal after Normandy, so the corporal rank is on this jacket is correct for him in this episode. He was a sargent by the end of the war.
-- It has \'Christenson\' inked inside and not marked out
--\"Father Maloney\' is inked inside but marked out.
-- The Market Garden episode is the only episode that the 101st Airborne wore M43 jackets with an American Flag arm brassard and the jacket is still in this configuration. The Market Garden episode had huge-scale scenes, including the large chaotic battle scene, with tons of 101st troopers all over the place. Christenson would have been in all the large scenes where you see a ton of 101st soldiers preparing for the jump, landing in their chutes, celebrating, marching, and fighting in the decisive battle. The battle scene was complete chaos with 101st troopers running everywhere. This jacket shows evidence of being worn:
-- It has a few small mud stains here and there from film use, including on the top right front pocket, the bottom right front pocket and the stomach area (see photos).
-- It has padding stuffed into each big pocket by the prop department, simulating combat conditions when a soldier carries as much stuff as he can into battle. The prop department used rolled up strips of cloth to fill the pockets (see photo). They would not do that unless it was being used.
-- The prop department would not have gone to the trouble of hand sewing on the American Flag if the jacket wasn\'t certain to be used. It\'s too much trouble, and it means the jacket can\'t be used in later episodes after Market Garden when they were not wearing the Flags.Jacket is size 42, and seems bigger than that because M43 jackets were always made to be very big baggy and warm coats. Pants are size 32 waist and have the correct sewn-on paratrooper thigh pockets and the four sewn-in pocket ties. This uniform set comes with a very small laminated COA from Soldier of Fortune, a well-known British uniform dealer. They bought huge lots of Band of Brothers gear from the costume department right after filming. It\'s well-known among folks that collect war props that several dealers bought huge lots of Band of Brothers uniforms and gear right after filming. The COA says \"This certificate validates that on the date of 14th December 2000 this M43 Para suit was purchased from \"Band of Brothers Ltd. Wardrobe Department\" at Hatfield Studios and were used in the filming of band of Brothers.\" Soldier of Fortune also has provided props and uniforms to many popular war movies and also sells movie props from Fury and Monuments Men. Own a piece of Hollywood history, items worn in the most popular mini-series in history (check the Amazon review score if you don\'t believe me) and also worn by a future huge movie star in Michael Fassbender.Payment info: offerding is accepted only from continental U.S. buyers, age 18 and over only.
