Banksy Original Rat Climbing Rats On Enamel Sign Reclaimed Circa 2005 Street Art For Sale
Banksy street
artwork, circa 2005-2006
This Banksy art work was retrieved from its original
location by a close friend and fellow enthusiast in around January / February 2006
and was a familiar sight to commuters and general members of the public for a short
while.
The artwork came from close proximity to St John Street,
walking distance to the City University for those of you that remember it in situ.
As you can see, Banksy used his genius and imagination to
jokingly add to the street furniture’s artistic appeal by positioning several
different climbing rats to look as though they are in fact, climbing around the
famous roundel design depicted within the sign.
There are several extremely well known examples of this
particular rat series on signs, walls, doors and even safes and old caravans
and no doubt many more hiding away in art collectors trophy cabinets around the
globe, such is the fascination with the artists early street work.
Banksy decided to display his work fairly recently on
relevant street signs such as the latest example (that I am aware of) on a no
stopping sign, that lasted only a few hours before being removed on Bell Lane,
London.
It has been displayed in a glass box to allow for a stunning
architectural centre piece in my home andtherefore, remains in the same ‘worn /
loved’ condition as when I acquired the work. It is completely original apart
from the removal of pigeon droppings that were present.
The bus stop signs are part and parcel of the street
furniture in central London and were mostly replaced a couple of years ago for
the newer style (graffiti resistant signs) such is the problem of tagging in
the capital.
If you require any further close up photographs then please
get in touch, well in advance of the end of the sale to allow me time to respond.

point) and weighs approximately 5 Kilos.
