Be A Us Marine First In The Fight Original Post-wwi 1922 Recruiting Poster Linen:
An original post-WWIUS Marine Corps recruiting poster "Be A U.S. Marine First to Fight Always Faithful" poster on linen. The U.S. Shipping Board issued the poster between 1917 and 1920. The artist is James Montgomery Flagg. Classic Art of Marine holding a handgun against backdrop of American Flag.
The date of the poster is 1922. The item measures 22" x 33 3/4." Linen-backing is a process to preserve movie art. As part of the process the posters are adhered to linen (a reversible process that prevents folds from opening up), cleaned and de-acidified (serving to preserve the color of the poster). The process creates a vibrant piece of art that is suitable for framing. Condition isgood-very good The poster had thumb tack holes and pinholes around the edges, with a few scattered in the image, and some tears around some of the holes, caused by rough removal of the thumb tacks. There were also some scuffing of the poster, including some in the face and figure of the soldier. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but very little restoration was performed (although just backing the poster has reduced how noticeable the above defects are). Item shows very well. Please note postage fee includes insurance on the poster.
