Beautiful 1907-8 Edison Standard Model B Cylinder Phonograph, Morning Glory Horn:
For your consideration is a beautiful 1907-8 Edison Standard Model B 2 minute cylinder phonograph with original and scarce stamped Tea Tray Morning Glory flower horn and original horn crane.
This original machine is in better shape than most Standards, with a clean, tight-cornered Golden Oak finished case, and 95% intact "Edison" logo. There is some as expected wear to the shellac finish, but the case displays well as can be witnessed in the photographs. The case's exterior hardware shows typical oxidation that comes with 100+ plus years of existence.
The 2 minute topworks is in nice condition with little to no oxidation on the nickel-plated parts, save for the lift button on the carriage arm. It should be noted that the mandrel is in uncommonly clean shape. The black japanned finish features some light crazing to the shellac coating and the pin striping is worn as is usually encountered on these machines. However, on the carriage arm rail, the Edison Trade Mark signature is clear and intact, something not often seen on this machines. The rebuilt 2 minute Model C reproducer sounds and looks great, matching the cleanliness of the mandrel.
The motor is strong and features only a small amount of gear noise, less than average. It can easily power through a cylinder or two on a full winding.
Used for amplification and to add elegance to this fairly industrial machine is a remarkably intact Tea Tray Company Morning Glory horn with painted flowers. This horn has the "TTCO" logo stamped into the steel end cone, rather than applied via paper label, as is most often seen. The flowers are almost entirely intact, with some minor flaking here and there. The exterior is in good condition with slightly better than typical wear. The horn is supported by the original crane with shows normal oxidation throughout and has a replacement hanging chain. A rubber horn connector is provided.
Included with the machine is an original Edison oil can whose label has been lost with time. I am also including a near mint Edison Gold Moulded 2 minute Black Wax cylinder recording of "Where the Southern Roses Grow" so you can listen to some music as soon as the phonograph is set up. More cylinder recordings are available elsewhere and on . This machine plays any 2 minute cylinder, wax or celluloid, including those manufactured by Columbia, Indestructible, Oxford, Lambert, etc.A facsimile of an original copy of the Edison Standard set-up instructions that accompanied these machines will be provided for historical accuracy and ease of operation.
