Beautiful E. F. Johnson Viking 6n2 Two & Six Meter Transmitter With 6n2 Vfo:
Beautiful vintage E. F Johnson 6 N 2 six and two meter transmitter with matching VFO and with a copy of the manual. This transmitter and VFO have been sitting on one of my hamshack shelves for many years -- it's time for them to get a good home.A copy of the instruction and assembly manual for the transmitter is included. The manual copy, the VFO, and the transmitter did not all come together, as I remember, but my memory is certainly hazy on this one!Johnson rates the transmitter at 100 watts power input on AM, and at 150 watts power input on CW. These are ICAS ratings. The unit was originally designed to be powered from and to be modulated by either a companion Viking Ranger, Viking I, Viking II, or Valiant. It requires 6.3 volts RMS at 3 amps, 300 volts at 75 MA, and 400 to 750 volts at 100 to 200 MA according to the manual. A modulator is required for AM -- Johnson says it should be 20 to 40 watts depending on how much power the 6N2 is running. Originally the modulation would have come from the Viking Ranger, Viking I or II, or Valiant with which it was designed to be used. I do not know if this was a kit or was pre-wired -- it looks really good inside as you can see from the pictures.A external power supply -- and with an external modulator if desired -- are required. With a suitable power supply and modulator these units historically work very as stand-alone transmitters. The transmitter and the VFO are entirely untested. Please note that the 5894 final amplifier tube appears to have "sucked air," and will doubtless need to be replaced. On the other hand, I may be wrong! The power adjustment resistor internal to the transmitter has had its moveable tap wire unsoldered. I left it that way since the successful buyer, if choosing to put this transmitter on the air, will doubtless want to make that power adjustment in accordance with the high B+ voltage supplied to the unit. These units are sold "as is" -- please understand that at a minimum the power output adjustable resistor tap will have to be soldered and adjusted, the 5894 likely will need to be replaced, and a power supply (and modulator if desired) will have to be provided. I make absolutely no representation that they work. The slightly larger-than-the-transmitter carton dimensions are chosen to accommodate both the transmitter and the VFO in one package. There is no packing or handling cost for these items! Thanks for looking at my offer, and good luck offerding !!
