My passion is antique jewellery! I look at the descriptions on sometimes and want to write really snotty emails to the sellers!Eg. Stuff described as art deco that is signed by a maker who didn\'t start working until the 1960\'s!
If I were a lousy seller I would describe this as victorian, the style and age of the cameo is victorian, the hinge is victorian, but I know( though you may not!) that this style of clasp wasn\'t invented until around 1911 the safety chain is a relatively modern addition.
I think there is also a bit of evidence of glue which isn\'t how victorians set their cameos!
SO I THINK THIS IS A VICTORIAN CAMEO THAT WAS REPAIRED POSSIBLY IN THE 1940\'s
it is large and beautiful and from the front is a superb victorian cameo! In great vintage condition!
And that is just what it is unless you are pretty well up on antique and vintage jewellery.
