Denomination: Bronze Follis.Obverse: Madona seated forward, hold a sword like sceptre, with SANCTA MARIA around.Reverse: Two kings enthroned with REX BELA REX STS around.Size: 25.5mm ,scyphate (bowl shaped). Weight: 2.15 grams.Reference: Huszar 72 During the Árpád Dinasty\'s Bela III 2 type of copper coins( Rézpénz - réz=copper, pénz=money) were issued. First type, referenced to as Huszar 72, has byzantine/christian style and is usually bowl shaped. Second (Huszar 73) is type with pseudo-Arabic inscription. At that time Hungary used (very small) silver denar and silver obolus (obol = half denar) and use for this pseudo-Arabic type is bit of the mystery. One theory says these were struck for Hungarian
troops for use in the Holy Lands during the 3rd Crusade.The other says that at that time in Hungary lived an economically significant Muslim population and they didn\'t like Christian symbols and human representation on them so these were struck.Both theories are merely assumptions as there is no sufficient evidence for either of them.
