Benton Barracks From Southeast A Mclean Patriotic Letter Sheet & Uscc St Louis For Sale
Benton
Barracks from south east illustrated letter sheet from a member of the 48th regiment Wisconsin
volunteers.
The
letter sheet is listed in Dr Milgram’s book : Federal Civil War postal history
on pg 95 as St.L.Lg. F.LS-3 R-1 Benton Barracks from south east by A. McLean “
A McLean produced two designs of Benton Barracks on large format paper which
was very popular with soldiers. They could be mailed in a small envelope with a
portion of one of the large views.”
The
letter is written in German, and there is no year date. The writer is Samuel
Hollenbach/ Co F 48 Regt Wisconsin volunteers/ Benton Barracks St Louis.

cover has no postage and a unknown cds & target cancel. There is a CC for
the St Louis branch of the US Christian Commission –send this as the soldier’s

has a symbol of a dove carrying the letter- cover has edge wear and aging.
