Beautiful 1900's Islamic Arabian / Yemeni Treasure Box Brass Inlaid with Silver . Adorned with Kufic Arabic Calligraphic Silver Script Bands Foliates , Interlaced geometricpatterns and detailedwithArabesques and Repetitive Patterns.. A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware ,Mamluk Revival ,Persian & Islamic Art in General. The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world.The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery.Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns. After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand.Finally thesilverand copper is hammered into the carved areas. This beautiful box has beautiful Kufic calligraphy on all sides as well as the lid.This is a fairly tall boxreminiscentof the Dowry boxes from Yemen and what is nowadays Saudi Arabia.
