Large &Beautiful 1900's Islamic Mamluk Revival Quran Box Brass Inlaid with Silver & Copper . Adorned with Arabic Calligraphic Silver Script Cartouches on all 5 sides . Also Interlaced geometricpatterns and detailedwithArabesques and Repetitive Patterns.. A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware ,Mamluk Revival ,Persian & Islamic Art in General. The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world.The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery.Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns. After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand.Finally thesilverand copper is hammered into the carved areas. This box is large compared to most that turn up.Please see all pictures and dimensions.
