Bisque Head Japanese Doll, 12" Breather, Jointed Wood Body, Pink Pattern:
$300

One of two Japanese bisque head dolls. Each is 12" tall. Both are shown in the last photo.
This girl wears a pink print kimono; the fabric is fraying at the joints. The bisque head, white with pink blush highlights around the cheeks and eyes, has weight. The nostrils are pierced, so the doll's known as a "breather." A manufacturer's name is incised in the bisque in Japanese at the base of the neck. The eyes sleep. The wig is a black, still natural material. The ears are beautiful. The hands and feet are painted composition or wood. With a body which is jointed at hips, knees, shoulders and elbows, the doll can be posed and sit down. She's been restrung with new elastic, but should still be handled with care as the head is heavy.
In one photo, the doll's shown with the inner side of her sash, stiffened with a Japanese newspaper current for the period. Hard to find, these bisque head jointed Japanese dolls.
