Blown Three Mold Whimsey ~ Top Hat ~ Giii-7, Geometric Ink Sunburst, Circa 1830:
Geometric Sunburst PatternInk Whimsey- Blown HatUp for sale here is this wonderful example of the Early American Glassblower's artistry and skill, a wonderfully made blown three mold Hat. Blown into a McKearin number GIII-7 Sunburst Pattern geometric ink mold to form the crown of the hat with the brim formed by the clever manipulation of the glassblower. Likely dates to sometime between 1820 and 1840 we're guessing, probably produced at one of the New England glassworks. Wonderful about perfect condition! No problems at all, just some honest base wear and scratches on the open pontilled base (upside down in the first picture above, just for fun). Measures about 2 and 1/2 inches tall, and 2 inches across at the base. Please see photos and let us know if you need more or need more information. These are getting to be quite hard to find, particularly in this about perfect condition. Getting close to 200 years old now!
