C. 1920's Authentic "trad" Brooks Brothers Heavy Navy Blue Overcoat For Sale
Here we have an authentic and rare circa 1920's Brooks Brothers item. This is a super-heavy overcoat was made in Brooks Brother's original workrooms in New York City on Madison Ave. sometime in the late 1920's. This coat matches perfectly with the one described in Brooks Brother's Illustrated catalog from January-February of 1928. I have provided photos from that catalog for buyers to compare. The coat is not dated but I would have no doubt that this item corresponds with the period. The Brooks Brothers tag sewn in to the collar would suggest this era in and of itself. The superb construction of this coat is typical of the quality and workmanship that was the foundation of the Brooks Brothers name. It is likely made of a heavy Scottish woven wool and it displays the unique American styling synonymous with Brooks: soft shoulders, elegant drape, and comfort. The interior is lined with a somewhat anachronistic feature. There is a lining of plaid wool challis to provide yet another layer of warmth. This is done in a medium and light blue tartan. The coat is quite heavy and would provide for the coldest of days. All of the buttons are capable of being fastened, including the lapels as there are buttons provided under the collar at the throat. Overall condition is beautiful for its age with only the slightest issues pertaining exclusively to some seams at the junction of the satin linings at the yoke and sleeves. These can be very easily sewn up by any competent seamstress, but they should be noted. This coat is easily 80+ years or older and there are absolutely no moth nibbles or wear, other than the lining issues just mentioned. Handwritten tags in the breast pocket would indicate this to be approximately a 40 Long but I am a 40-42 regular and it fits me well enough. It would likely fit a taller gent a little better, however. All in all, this would be a rather unique find for any collector of "Trad" or original Brooks Brothers enthusiast. The coat is double breasted 3x3 buttons, peaked lapels, with a rear vent, flap pockets, including ticket pocket. Measurements are: Shoulders are 20 inches. Chest is 22 inches, across the front, pit to pit. Sleeves are 25 1/4 inches. Total length along the back seam is 47 1/4 inches.
