This is a rare 13th century manuscript leaf on vellum from the Ezekiel, chapter 17-18: " The parable of the two eagles and the vine. A promise of the cedar of Christ and his Church." Written by monks most likely in a French scriptorium, with both sides illuminated. From the HOLY BIBLE, from roughly 1250, with gorgeously illuminated medieval handwritten RED-BLUE illuminated chapter/ leaf headings, also with beautiful and singular black Gothic-Handwriting, complexly arranged and created with the utmost in precision, and with additional red and blue flourished dragons. If you look closely, you can see the subtle red rule highlighting of the letters, combined with the precise illuminated color of the chapter numbers and initials, a perfect reflection of the care and time taken to make this The page is made of on fine thin vellum in excellent condition with merely minor traces of aging, edge flaws, etc, as shown. 55 lines of double column text in microscopic miniscule Gothic script. The leaf is adorned with multicolored initials enhanced with freshly natural colors and ruled lines, embellished with large dragons with contemporary annotations of the monks. Text in Latin. Condition is fine. Measures 7.75" x 5.5".
