Garrard was crown jeweller since 1735 whenGeorge Wickes was appointed as goldsmith to the Prince of Wales. The 19thcentury continued with a succession of famous commissions for Royalty and in1843 Queen Victoria bestowed the honour of Crown Jeweller on the company. Garrardhas served six successive monarchs
The firm traces back to RobertGarrard I, first listed 1792. They were later appointed Goldsmiths &Jewellers to the King in 1830. An appointment they hold to this day.
The lid hallmarks appear to be datedLondon 1792.
The base appears to be Londonhallmarked for sterling and dated 1831 Both have the RS and crown hallmark forthe R & S Garrard Co.
