C1850 FIGURAL ANGLO INDIAN BRONZE & ROSEWOOD INK STAND BRITISH RAJ PERIOD NO RES
This listing is for a mid-19th century, circa 1850’s, British Raj Period, bronze and rosewood ink stand. The stand as a whole measures 8 ¼ inches or 21 cm high, it is 10 ½ inches or 26.5 cm wide and is 6 ¼ inches or 16 cm deep.
The rosewood base sits on four round bronze feet. At the front of the rosewood base is a single long drawer. The top of the rosewood base is a stepped bronze inkwell. The top lifts off and reveals a pen tray, two spots for inkwells, and a sander. The figure on the top is a Bengal native infantry soldier. He is in an alert kneeling position with a flint lock rifle in his hands. The bronze has a milk chocolate brown patina or color which is all original to the piece.
The condition is as follows; the knob on the front of the drawer is missing, there is a piece of veneer missing from the top of the wood base. The bronze inkstand needs to be reattached to the wood base. The inkwells are not present, and one pen holder is also missing. Still all in all a very nice antique inkstand. Please see the many photographs for more on the look and condition of this fine inkstand.
