Up for sale is a Victorian tea pot or coffee pot by Reed and Barton. The pattern was manufactured for the Philadelphia Centennial Expo in 1877 as part of the Reed and Barton presentation silver plate exhibit. The design was patent by William Beattie on July 25, 1876 for the Reed and Barton Company. During the Expo member of the Japanese Commission purchased the set for a gift to the Emperor of japan. The book American Silver Plate by Dorothy and Ivan Rainwater feature the pattern on page 138 along with the explanation of its history, design and date of production. The tea pot stands 11 inches tall and is 9.5 inches wide and features an ornate repousse design of every imaginable flower. There are no monograms or dents. A protective coating had been applied to the silver plate after it was manufactured protecting the plate but turning it a dark color. After the coating was removed the lovely exterior was exposed to show this beautiful design. There are a few nicks on the rim so please open the pictures and take a look.
