C1950 Silver Torah Pointer Yad & Rosh Hashanah Honey Pot Avishai Israel Bezalel :
Not including the chain, the Torah pointer measures 12.5 inches long. The honey pot is 3 inches high, 4 inches wide. Yes, this sale is for TWO sterling silver items made by Avishai in 1950's Israel --- for one price you get a torah pointer (the Avishai hallmark is difficult to make out as it is underneath the applied shield --- but you can see the photo I took of it), and a honey pot that is marked for Avishai. The honey pot is for use on Rosh Hashanah as indicated by the Hebrew verse ("Land of milk and honey")
Yechya Avishai was born in 1895 and worked at the silver department in the Bezalel School of Art in 1919 and 1920 and was a member of the Keter Group. He taught his son all the silver techniques he used at Bezalel, and his son opened up his own workshop in the 1950's under the name "Avishai".
Both the Torah pointer and honey pot are in gem mint condition, the pointer could use a polishing. On June 20, 2013 at Kestenbaum sales in New York, another identical example of this honey pot MISSING THE SPOON was estimated at $800 -- $1,000 and it sold for $922 (lot 76, hammered at $750 + 23% buyers premium = $922).
