VERY ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY HAND-PAINTED CANTONESE SANDALWOOD FAN, WITH ITS LACQUERED BOX
Very original 19th century Cantonese (Chinese) fan, with sandalwood guards and sticks and a hand-painted spread. Both sides of the spread carry colourful decorations. On one side, a typical portrayal of birds among flowers, in one of the most beloved painted subjects in Chinese art, while the other side carries two medallions with ladies playing different traditional string music instruments.
In the tradition of the well-known “1000 faces” fans, their faces are made of painted bone.
