This is agenuineChelsea 8-1/2" Dial Size (10" across case) Government / Navy(?) clock with heavy brass dial and original phenolic case. Theclockwas madebyin Bostonin1978 (Stamped on the movement is 814333).Glass is perfect. The dial is solid brass painted black with a few scratches in keeping with a clock that has sailed the Seven Seas. This clock has definitely been removed from a "retired" government vessel. The Phenolic case is in fair conditon with a superficial scratch (does not go through case) and chips on back flange ofcase. Please see photos 10-12. Movement is mostly brass with some discoloration of the plates due to salt air. Comes with US made engraved "Chelsea" winding key. Please be aware that the micrometer regulatoris frozen in place and does NOT turn! However, the clock has been regulated to accuracy of +/- 5 seconds per day. (I purchased this clockon many years ago and nothing about the condition was disclosed. This was at a time that sellers could leave buyers negative response, so I just didn'tleave response for fear of retaliation.) That being said, this clock is an excellent timekeeper, having recently been lubricated. Perhaps, pick it up for a song! (Make sure you get a fullyoperational clock here on ! Repairs for these at the factory typically run well in excess of $400. It's better to buy the best one you can afford instead of trying to "fix up" a broken one. A mechanical clock that doesn't keep accurate time isn't very useful!) Chelsea clocks are still made in Boston, and remainTHE STANDARD in mechanical clocks. Many are still running perfectly after 100 years! This is a terrific "time only" 24 hour clock without the mechanical complexity of a"Striker."
