GJPawsales is pleased to offer a beautiful Chinese porcelain \"Han-style\" Pitcher. Asan art form, only ceramics cover the entire forty-five century span of Chinesehistory. More than any other material, fired clay has served the needs andsatisfied the aesthetic tastes of all segments of Chinese society, and theChinese contribution to ceramic art is one of uncontested brilliance. Indeed, in terms of their sheer production, technical innovation, artistic refinement, aesthetic diversity and global impact, the Chinese can claim the world\'slongest and foremost ceramic tradition. The origin of ceramics technologydates back6000 years to the Neolithic period in China, and the related technologies and skillswere continuouslydeveloped throughout Chinese history. Over the course of many dynasties, ceramictechniques slowly evolved. Innovations with under glazes, colors, materialsincluding metallic ores, all propelled Chinese ceramics into a highly prizedcommodity for the imperial courts throughout China, and ultimately, for export. Ceramics fall under twomajor categories: low-fired earthenware (pottery), fired at 1000 c.; and high-firedstoneware and porcelain, fired at temperatures ranging from 1200 - 1350c. Potterywas also valued in the Far East as elsewhere for its craftsman qualities, as attested by this vase, which reflectsa special artistic sensibility which artisans bestowed upon everyday objects, showing as it does the powerful symbolism of imagery in Chinese culture and their association with sacred rituals. This superb Pitcher owes its design heritage to the commercial and cultural exchangethat characterized the art of the Han dynasty, illustrating the impact of tradealong the famed Silk Road. The pitcher measures 5.25 inches indiameter by 4.25 inches in width by 6.25 inches in height (13.3 cm by 10.7 cm by 15.8 cm). It probably dates to the 20th century, and is in very goodcondition, including rubbing, minor chips and scratches. A superb example of a very distinctive style of Chineseceramic art, it would make a fine collector’s piece and is guaranteed authentic.
