EARLY ANTIQUETEKKETURKOMAN 30-GUL CHUVAL, Central Asian Tribal, Turkmenistan,Circa 1850-1875, 3rd quarter of the19th century, andcoming in very good overall condition for the antique rug collector. The approximate size is:2'-4" x 3'-8" (71 x 112cm).Typical for Tekke Turkmen weavings, this early antique specimenisasymmetrically knotted open to the right on naturalivory wool warpswith natural lightbrown woolwefts and finely knotted with an average of 300 knots per square inch.All the dyes are 100% natural and derived from plant sources. Magenta silkinlay highlitesare found in the very centers of the top five of the six rows of chuval guls in the field. Originally, this very old and specialweavinghada back to itand was used inside the yurt forthe storage ofpersonalitems. Theelem panel skirt on this early antique specimen displaysa varient of the "gapyrga" motif with especially nice blues.The weaving comes in very good condition for its age. It is slightly reduced on the sides. The perameter of this weaving has been carefully sewn secure to prevent any future loss of structure. This ratherrare and beautiful Turkmen textileartifact is clean and collection ready with a soft, supple, velvety feel to it in the hand.
