REPORT OF GENERAL FEATHERSTON OF BATTLE OF JUNE 27, 1862

GAINE'S MILL, VA.

RICHMOND, JULY 12, 1862

A fine early vintageand genuine Civil War Confederate imprint., a complete report given by General Featherston at the battle of what was called Gaine's Mill. On June 27, 1862, the fighting that erupted at Gaines’ Mill was the bloodiest of the week-long battles known as the Seven Days Battle. 8vo about 5 x 7", 2pp [pages ], from a series of other reports. This is complete. Printed at Richmond, on what is called 'secessh' paper.

Description of their brave assault upon the Federal forces laying in front and along the woods., ..."during this advance, they were exposed to a raking fire from the enemy's artillery in front as well as from his long range rifles....."The enemy, fighting with great desperation, were driven gradually back from one position to another., ...."

Gen. Featherston describes the capture of the Federal artillery and the struggle to gain them was desperate., our losses were heavy; but it is believed the enemy sufferedmore...." the rally around the Gaine's house, etc. He lists a few of his brave members of his staff thathelped in thefight including the action of their surgeon.

Note; We will send a copy of a map showing the battlefield of Gaine's Mills., some of the most gallant charges were made at this battle prior to the grand charge at Gettysburg by Pickett. A very fine andhistorical original report that was printed at the time. [ The map is a copy ].The charge by Pickett at Gettysburg is the most well known, however, this charge was the largest that was successfully carriedout in the entire war.
