This is a nice gem sized tintype (about the size of a postage stamp) of a young man identified as Andrew Slyfield. It was found with other similar tintypes from around Sanbornton and Keene, NH and dates to the Civil War era. Online databases indicate that he was a Union soldier in the Civil War. The following is his Civil War service record taken from ancestry.com

Name: Andrew Slyfield Residence: Keene, New Hampshire Enlistment Date: 23 Apr 1861 Side Served: Union State Served: New Hampshire Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 23 April 1861 at the age of 23.
Enlisted in Company G, 1st Infantry Regiment New Hampshire on 2 May 1861.
Mustered Out Company G, 1st Infantry Regiment New Hampshire on 9 Aug 1861 at Concord, NH.
