Clews 19th C. Purple Transferware Plate "zoological Gardens":
Here is a nice C.1830's transferware plate with an interesting image. It depicts the London Zoological Garden which opened in 1826. The plate was made by R. J. Clews and has the makers mark and pattern on the back, (see photo). It is a purple transferware on a cream background. The plate is about 7 3/4" in diameter. The plate is in good condition for its age with a crisp image. There are some brown stains on the back and a tight hairline that is visible in the pictures. I am listing several pieces of transferware tonight, and I will gladly combine shipping if someone purchases more than one item.
