Collectors Antique Kizil Ayak Turkoman 9-gul Chuval. Classic Design. Good Cond. For Sale
ANTIQUE KIZIL AYAK TURKOMAN 9-GUL CHUVAL,Central Asian Tribal, Turkmenistan, last quarter of the19th century to circa 1900, and having very good allover pile condition for thecollector. The approximate size: 3'-0" x 5'-0" (92 x 153 cm).Whether (in ethnographic terms) the Kizil Ayak form a sub-tribe of the Ersari remains an open question to rug scholars, but, along with theChub Bash tribe living in Northern Afghanistan, theydid create a distinct group of weavings all with identical technical structural similarities. This chuval is a classically designedexample woven with the asymmetrical knot open to the right on natural ivory wool warps and natural brown wool wefts. This antiqueTurkmen collector weavinghas goodpile condition and it possesses both natural dyes and perhaps one brightern red dye that may be non-natural.The top and bottom end finishes are slightly reduced and are now sewn secure to prevent any future loss of structure. The sides have been slightlyreduced and re-wrapped securely. The elem panel design is an interesting varient withits flowering plantmotifs. This weavinghas just been professionally cleanedand it is collection ready. This example makes a nice bold display as a decorative antique tribal textile art wall hanging. Note that thistent bag facingdisplays a chuval gul with "x" quadrants, a minor "chemche-gul" with diamond centers, and a "kochak" (ram's horn) border surround that are all classic to similar published Kizil Ayak chuval chuvals in the antique rug book literature on the subject of Turkmen weavings.
